Never Forget....

 

 

 

 

On Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, the American Army and Navy base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was attacked by the Imperial Japanese Navy. The attack came as a surprise to the American Army and Navy and lead to great losses of life and equipment. More than 2000 American citizens were killed and more than 1000 were injured. The Americans also lost a large proportion of their battle ships and nearly 200 aircraft that were stationed in the Pacific region. More than 60 Japanese servicemen were killed, injured or captured. The Japanese Navy also lost five midget submarines and 29 aircraft.
The Japanese military had hoped that the attack on Pearl Harbor would prevent the United States of America from increasing her influence in the Pacific. However, the events in Pearl Harbor actually led to the escalation of World War II. The day after the attack, the United States declared war on Japan and so entered World War II. President Franklin Roosevelt in a speech to Congress stated that the bombing of Pearl Harbor was “a date which will live in infamy”. Shortly afterwards, Germany also declared war on the United States. In the months that followed the attack, the slogan “Remember Pearl Harbor” swept the United States and radio stations repeatedly played a song of the same name.

like Christmas around here...

 

 

I wanted to surprise Michael when he got home from school today...And even though I slipped and fell and about killed myself getting it done on time, it was all worth it to see Michael's face light up and the huge smile on his face when he walked in the door!! He loves Christmas!

 

Awww there are NO presents under the tree for Meeee....poor Jake!

A Christmas decoration...

 

 

If you know me that is an amazing feat to have a Christmas decoration up!! I am not one for decorating for the Holidays and with the kidney stone and stomach virus I am moving kind of slow...

 

 

 

Michael and I purchased this cute Gingerbread house this past weekend and I thought I would surprise him in the morning!! Now if I can get the little Light up Christmas trees next to it, it will all be good!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Our Thanksgiving break...

 

 

Michael and I headed to San Angelo, Eldorado and Sonora Texas for our Thanksgiving break. We had a great Thanksgiving with Dawn and her Family.

 

On the way through San Antonio I handed the camera to Michael and said take photos. Of course he got the tower of Americas...

 

And he was so proud of capturing the American flag on this shot!

 

 

Then as always my favorite part of the drive is the Texas Hill Country, love it!

This is Hwy 83 out of Junction Texas, some beautiful autumn colors...We got checked into our hotel in San Angelo early in the afternoon and did a little shopping too.

 

Dacey is one gorgeous young lady...Weds evening we headed to Dawn's in Eldorado, goodness it was good to see her and everyone!

As many times as I've been to Eldorado I never knew they were on the top of the great divide until this past weekend, cool. Dawn has to adjust her pressure cooking for the elevation, so glad I don't have too!!

 

Saturday Dawn took us on the back roads to her parents ranch in Sonora...I also learned that Oak trees do not grow on the great divide but if you travel a few miles away from it the Oak trees grow. Dawn thought it was due to the elevation?

Michael and I headed back home Sunday...They still hadn't harvested the cotton around San Angelo.

This is the 2nd group of 3 groups of electric linemen we had passed. They had been busy getting the electricity back in areas of West Texas over Thanksgiving. I feel for the guys as they didn't get to spend Thanksgiving with their families. God Bless the Military, Electric Linemen and Oilfield people that weren't able to spend the Holiday with their families!

Home Sweet Home!!

 

 

We had a rough trip actually...It was fun and loved seeing Dawn and Family but it could have been a bit better for me health wise. Friday I ended up having a kidney stone. Michael and I hibernated to the hotel room and Friday night was rough as the kidney stone moved and moved and moved. I managed to get to Dawn's Saturday and in the afternoon I passed the kidney stone, yeah. Was so worried about driving home with a kidney stone, so when I passed it I was so relieved...Then it seems Monday morning I woke up with a stomach virus...Dacey and Skeeter also got it...Ugh!! Luckily it was just a 24 hour bug and I'm on the mend. I think I'd like a do over weekend, if that was possible!!
