Temperatures here are suppose to be in the high 80's this weekend and in Laredo 102! I feel sorry for anyone headed to Laredo this weekend. I hope they have a pool!

Morning walk...

Jake and I have been going for morning walks and we've had someone or thing accompany us. Not that I want her too but Lydia goes along too, sigh! I tried to shut her in the house this morning so we could go further then the end of the driveway but she managed to escape my attempt and I just gave up and off we went...

(I honestly believe she has dog in her blood lines, this is a one mile walk and to me it's just not natural for cats to walk with a dog and human)

The end of the driveway and she goes across the cattle guard and thankfully just stops and stares at the road, ugh. Come on Lydia lets head back...Jake is very cooperative, Lydia not so much...Lydia!!!

She finally comes in her own good time and bounds past us...I'm laughing as she bounces by with her tail in the air...really glad she's not a skunk!

Yep, I told you not to come Lydia, as she stops to catch her breath and pants...goofy cat!

Bluebonnets and of course I didn't have time last year to shred this part of the pasture. Doesn't make for a very pretty photo.

Lydia plopped down for another break...a mile for a cat is a pretty long ways.

Oh so cool...I spotted him just off the driveway!

He's an ornate box turtle and a male as he has red eyes. He didn't mind me taking photos but the minute Jake stuck his nose down there he popped right back in his shell. When I spot a turtle here I always wonder if it's one of the ones we saved from the road...

I went over to my girlfriends house at noon today to have lunch with the Library Ladies and to celebrate a couple of the ladies birthdays...Happy Birthday Shelly and Sabra!

I knew Helen had kittens in the garage so I snuck out there after lunch to get a few photos for her...she loves her kittys.

Hmmmm Michael I don't think those were butterfly eggs, ekk.
The eggs we collected a few days ago hatched this morning. At first I thought there was a bug on the plant eating the butterfly eggs, I really couldn't tell. This afternoon I got the Macro lens out and the tripod to try for photos where I could see what was going on. It's hell when you get old and can't see. But even this morning Michael wasn't able to see what was going on, they are just too tiny, ugh! Well it wasn't an enemy attack on the eggs and it wasn't caterpillars hatching out either, eww...Needless to say we don't have a clue what kind of bugs they were but they went directly outside when we saw this photo! Ah well we'll try again.

We've got LEGS...

Our tadpoles have legs...well at least one of them does. I cleaned out their aquarium today and was sitting down studying them. I actually study them every day but today I noticed one of them has itty bitty legs, woohoo. I read it can take up to 6 months for a bullfrog tadpole to get legs but then again maybe these are leopard frogs and not bullfrogs. We'll just have to continue to wait and see. On Average they are about 2 inches long, some are smaller and a few are really quiet large...

Just a face shot. I used the Macro lens and had the ISO set up on 3200. Did you know it's really hard to get photos of tadpoles. They don't stay still for long and they wiggle and swim all over.

And here's Mr leggy...I had a hard time getting a clear shot but if you click on the photo you might be able to see his legs. Michael is going to be very excited when he sees them.

I just went and looked it's been 7 weeks and 2 days since the tadpoles hatched.

Sunday walk in the bluebonnets...

I had just finished the previous blog post this afternoon when Michael came and asked if we could go for a walk...I'm not one to turn down a walk out in the pasture you just never know what you'll find...Of course Michael had to take a gun (bb) as he said he thought there was a Giant Spitting Cobra and he had to protect me...gotta love my boy! Spitting Cobras are dangerous especially giant ones, ekk!

And of course I couldn't NOT take photos of the bluebonnets. Yes they are up and blooming. Not as big or as thick as in previous years but they are there...

You may get tired of bluebonnets after this post, I just couldn't help myself they are all over the place. Everywhere you look there is a bluebonnet...

Ants...fire ants! Ouch!

Michael was irritating them by sticking a piece of grass in their hole.

It's hard work and takes a lot of concentration to disturb fire ants...he didn't even know I had the camera in his face, lol. I have also noticed he is getting freckles just like I had when I was his age, too cute. Gotta love his KoolAid mustache too!

I think this is my favorite but then it's really hard to choose!

Then I turned and noticed these...Wow! Butterfly eggs!

We marked the spot and may go back to retrieve them. We have two butterfly habitats. Not sure I'm ready to feed caterpillars though, they eat a lot! Michael loved them and was so excited at the chance to raise caterpillars.

Yes I finally found a shed antler, woohoo! Michael and I walked down near some trails by the dry creek bed and we were standing there talking. I looked down and said "Oh Wow!" Michael said what? He looked down and noticed an armadillo hole and said Mom it's just and armadillo hole and I said no Michael keep looking...He didn't see it until I put my foot on it, sheesh! Of course I'm one to talk I was standing directly on top of it!

Then we headed back to the field of Bluebonnets...

and I know I've seen it in my wildflower books but could not find it tonight...

This is a Wildflower too and I hate it...It hurts! Especially when you accidentally rub your leg up against it...Owwwww...it burns and it's name is Bull Nettle!!

I actually found another nettle out in the pasture/woods. Last week when I was out there I thought I was walking through a type of beebalm/horse mint, wrong! I couldn't figure out what kept stinging/burning on my leg...well it wasn't beebalm it was nettles, ouch! Today Michael and I ended up in a patch of it and I told him don't touch it or your leg will feel like it's on fire...I need to go back out and take a photo of it as there are two types of nettle it could be.

Michael spotted this ladybug and wanted me to take a photo of her, so I did! She had no spots and he thought that was pretty neat.

Roadside Blue-eyed grass...they sure catch your eye.

We had a pretty interesting walk and I always enjoy walking with Michael he has quiet the imagination and keeps you on your toes!
