Jenny girl and the flowers...

Earlier this spring Michael and I picked out some roses, not an easy thing for us as we have a hard time agreeing...We planted the ones we chose down at the property near the pool and they are just starting to bloom...So far we are really happy with our choices...

Love the colors...oh so pretty!

I never had much luck with roses in Michigan and there for I didn't really care for them but over the years down here I've had really good luck with them. Fred loves roses so I started growing them for him and now I'm falling in love...Our other rose bush should be blooming next week, can't wait to see what it looks like!

Jenny loves to come with me...she doesn't really help and she is banned from the garden as she just doesn't understand that she should NOT walk on the seedlings but she does keep me company and I enjoy that...She's a good dog!

Here's hoping y'all have a great weekend!!

85mm lens...

I went and bought myself an 85mm lens for my birthday...I had a 50mm lens but I didn't like it, never have liked it. I loaned it to a friend who's 50mm was broken and she absolutely loved her 50mm. When she received mine she was excited but then she realized I was right, my 50mm lens sucked! So glad to know it wasn't me but the lens. So after doing a bit of research I decided to go with the 85mm lens...it's good for low light, has great bokeh (blur) and a good all around portrait lens or for inside sporting events...
I received the lens tonight and managed to capture a few photos before it got dark out...It's going to take me awhile to get use to the lens and what situations I want to use it in...

The mutant Indian blankets

Some of our Early girl tomatoes...all I can think is BLT's...Mmmm

Can't wait to see what this does when the sun is out and it's not overcast!

I think I like shooting at 2.8...I like the bokeh

My flower basket, love this!

A patch of Indian blankets at the property...

I pulled Michael out of bed so I could snap a few photos of him, lol...I'm such a nice Mom!

He has a class field trip in the morning and has to be at the school by 5:45am, yikes! Our alarms are set for 4:30am. He's going to have a very long day! Me I'm going back to bed, you are allowed to do that on your Birthday, right? LOL...

I was trying to get him to smile and he was more interested in watching Jenny chase the young chickens...and then laughing because she got in trouble! Jenny likes the teenage chickens, they fly when she goes after them, sigh! Silly dog!

I've been letting the youngsters out of their coop pen in the evenings. This evening they found the flower bed, Uh Oh! They are so fun to watch and oh so curious!

Hopefully the sun will be out tomorrow and I can play with the new lens some more. We had a cold front come through last night and our morning temperature was 47 degrees F., Brr...I've never seen it that cold here in April!!

In the tree this morning...

I had just gotten home from taking Michael to school and was walking into the house when I heard chirping in the tree next to the house. I backed up and looked up and sure enough there was a flock of Cedar Waxwings, too cool. The sun was just coming up and the light wasn't good but I thought I'd attempt a few photos of one of my favorite birds!

Cedar waxwing

I was looking at this photo and thought wait a minute that bird on the right isn't a Cedar Waxwing...I looked it up in the bird book and saw it's a dickcissel. It's not a very clear photo but good enough to identify what I'm looking at it...A new bird species for me as I don't think I've seen one before, sweet.

It was a bit chilly this morning so the Cedar waxwings were puffed up and soaking the first rays of sunshine up while grooming themselves.

They didn't stay long but it was nice to see them! Here's hoping y'all have a good day!

This evenings photos!!

This evening I worked on the garden and around the pool. I do what I can and I'm slowly working my way around the pool with the landscaping. I sit on the deck periodically watching the world go round. Tonight I was watching the hummingbirds fight over the feeder but the camera was 4ft away and I was too lazy to get it. I did grab it here and there while I was working when something caught my eye....

So glad I put these in, they're gorgeous and add such a splash of color

I'm not sure he can carry anymore pollen?

Love watching the flowers being pollinated even if it is a Red wasp
