Mid-morning at the Property...

I talked Fred in to going down to the property this morning by telling him he could play on the tractor, lol. With all the rain we've had lately unless you have 4-wheel drive you can't get into the property and I so wanted to go. My truck is not 4x4 but Fred's is but he wouldn't let me take it as he had to clean it out, grr...I begged and pleaded with him to take me down there and then I finally told him if he put some more sandy loam soil on the driveway I could drive my truck on it. When I mentioned that meant he got to drive the tractor and play in dirt he said okay, lol...He loves playing with his tractor and I love playing with my camera!

Mockingbird, there were a lot of them down there today.

Loggerhead shrike. They catch grasshoppers and beat them on something until dead, always thought they were cool.

Hmmm....I don't think he'd run me over but then I should know better than to get between a man and his dirt pile?

It was absolutely beautiful out today. I had fun and the wildflowers are really starting to take off and bloom. I even saw an Indian paint brush in the ditch today (Fred wouldn't stop so I could take a photo, sigh). Tomorrow, Michael doesn't have school, so we are headed over to the wildlife refuge, can't wait to see what I find...Michael wants to see gators and I hope they are out!

Fred looks like a happy camper. Your pictures of flowers with bugs are great. I was waiting for you to say the name of the little pink/lavendar flowers. We have a lot of those and I call them Sweet Williams but I have no idea if that is correct. What ever my Mama called things that is what I still call them.

Thank you Paula. The little pink/lavendar flowers are pointed phlox and belong to the Polemoniaceae family. They do look some what like Sweet Williams. Sweet Williams belong to the Dianthus family.
I plan on starting to name the flowers soon. I have my wildflower books out and ready to go :o)
