Green Kingfisher

I've always been fascinated by Kingfishers. I even wrote a book about them in 5th grade. Down at the creek I've noticed there are Green Kingfishers and love listening and watching for them. Over the years I've tried to get a decent photo but never managed it. Today one landed right in front of me. Of course there was a branch in the way but I knew if I moved he'd fly off, so I stayed put and snapped a few photos. After I took 4 photos and hoping one of them was decent I decided to try and move just a little bit to get the branch out of the way and of course when I moved he flew off. I was hoping he'd come back as I am pretty sure he has a burrow/nest in the bank where I was standing but no such luck. I'm still pretty happy with the photo above, too cool. They burrow into the creek banks about 8 foot and build their nest in the burrows. So maybe I'll be seeing them a bit more often and can try for a better photo later.

That's gorgeous! I used to see a few kingfishers around here but haven't seen one for years. Great job, Wendy and I hope you get many more.
