Our Day in Photos

Michael has recently joined the Cub Scouts...today was his troops Derby race. Fred made sure he'd be home so he could go with Michael. We all worked together on his Derby car. None of us had done this before so we really had no clue as to how to build the car. Michael came up with the design he wanted (below) and colors. Michael and I cut it out with the scroll saw (I thought that would be the safest saw for him to use). We all took our hand at sanding it and then I helped Michael to paint it. Then Fred and Michael put the wheels on it last night.

Just as we were leaving the house, Michael was so excited.
We got over to where the Derby was being held and no one was there? I checked my emails and yes we had the right day and time. I had a few phone numbers of some of the leaders and called and finally reached one of them. It seems the Derby had been canceled and we didn't get the message, uh oh! Michael was pretty upset as he really wanted his Dad here for the Derby. We explained to Michael that sometimes things happen and that hopefully his Dad would be able to make it when they had the Derby.
We then decided to head to the property for the afternoon...
Off to check the creek...

Kids pool at the creek...

Flowers, I was excited to find these!
~
Michael and I found the leaf cutter ants, so cool. We could sit and watch them all day. We followed their trail to their nest.
~
It amazes us as to how much they can carry...
~
Here is part of their trail...they're going and coming.

The nest...

Fred working on a project.

I sat down a little ways away from the boys and just started looking around...I saw this green green grass and thought cool a photo op...I love green green grass!

Give a boy post hole diggers and he'll play for hours...

Helping Daddy

If you sit in one place long enough you'll find something interesting!

I love this man...he loves his new leather gloves, lol...He says they're really soft!

Flint napping?

Give a boy a shovel and post hole diggers and he'll be very very busy for hours!

Measuring things...
~
Project is done and time to target practice!
~
Our targets! I forgot my glasses but did fairly well, Michael needs a lot of practice and Fred's excuse was his guns were not sighted in, lol. The two smaller targets on top are exploding targets, which were pretty cool.
~
I hit 3 of the exploding targets and then Fred finally hit one but he had to use my rifle to hit it. I snapped this photo as his exploded! Michael kept trying and trying to hit the exploding targets but never managed to hit the center. He came awful close.
We then went for a drive and saw this Jet with a contrail, sweet!
~

The new bridge on the left and the old bridge (lower down) on the right. We won't have to worry about the new bridge flooding and hopefully the work will be done soon. The old bridge was built in the 1950's and it's going to be sad to see it gone, they are going to tear it out of there when the new bridge is finished. A lot of people are hoping they'll keep it there so people can fish from it but I was told they won't leave it there because of log jams when it floods.
~
Another Jet and it's contrail...must be lots of water vapor up there?
~
And a gorgeous South Texas Sunset.
~
Even though we didn't do the Derby today we had a great day together as a family. Michael and Fred cleaned the guns, then played a few board games and are now settling down watching a movie on TV...always thankful for the time we spend together as a family!

Wonderful Pictures, liked the Ants, I watch the fire ants here, we don't have fire ants up in New York yet, nice picture of the Texas Sunset.

Paula we are hoping Michael's Dad will make it too when they have the next Derby race.
Woody I love Texas but I do not like fire ants. Seems I'm always getting bit by them :o)
